Note: Shaker Peg Rails are an interior feature of the hallways and rooms in the buildings of Shaker villages. The top of the peg rail is typically mounted in line with the top of the door (not the door frame) and run the entire length of the wall. Sometimes a second row is added 18 inches below the first. The pegs are usually spaced 6 inches apart, providing an ingenious utilitarian method for hanging articles of clothing, light furniture and items.
